Fun in Cape Cod

I just got back from a wonderful bachelorette weekend in Cape Cod with some of my favorite girls. We had a blast hanging out in the various quaint New England towns and attempting to layout at the beach despite the gray mist and fog. We also enjoyed some wine tasting at Truro Vineyards and a fabulous dinner at The Ocean House in Dennis. I was totally surprised and caught off guard to receive all sorts of "sexy little things" after dinner one night...it was so much fun to open everything! Thanks to all of the wonderful friends who just happen to be family members and friends that I've had long enough to be family that made it such a memorable weekend. I had a blast!

No crash diet necessary!

Last night I had the extreme excitement of going to pick up my dress! I had a good friend come with me to ooh and aah (and shoot some photos) while I tried it on--she did a great job making me feel beautiful. The dress had been in the shop for a trunk show, so they didn't normally carry it for me to go in and see it while I was waiting for the real one to be made. It was so fun to try it on and see my actual dress...it was pretty surreal that this is what I am going to wear on my wedding day.

I "borrowed" it from the shop for the weekend so I could take it to Hilton Head and try it on for my mom. I say borrowed because I definitely plan on taking it back when we get home on Sunday so it won't be in the house...R has already been asking about it and I don't want him to sneak a peek when I'm not at home one day.

The good news is that it fits perfectly, just like the sample did, and I will just need to have it hemmed (and maybe a little added padding sewn in up top for some extra oomph). I'm what the seamstress calls a "cheap date". I am just so relieved that I won't have to go on some major diet or workout kick to fit in it!

Sorry, but no pics of this one...it will just have to be a surprise on the wedding day!

Fleurs, part deux

Here are some more floral arrangements that I've found so far (although some of them trend a little more yellow than I would like)...

Fleurs

We are heading to HHI this weekend to have our tasting and I am so excited! We are also meeting with our florist for the first time and I am looking forward to walking through the space with her. There are a few surprises with the menu that I want to keep surprises so rather than divulge I'll share my floral inspirations so far...

I love the look of these dahlias

10 years already???

Last night we went to R's 10-year high school reunion. I cannot believe that in just a year we will be going to my own...how did 10 years go by so fast? We had a great time going to the beach for the day with some friends that R went to high school with but only became friends with in the last 5 years or so. I got some much needed sun and showed my skills at bocce, our new/old favorite beach game. Then a group of us went out to eat at one of my favorite restaurants, Hot Olives, before we headed over to the reunion.

It was kind of funny to see the people that R was friends with in high school and I also tried to figure out who each person was back then...the cheerleaders, the prom queen, etc. The DJ did a great job playing throwbacks from the '90s and everyone had a great time. I am very curious to see what the plans are for my class and can't wait to catch up with old friends!

happy father's day!

Just a quick shout-out to my wonderful dad, who has taught me so much and helped shape the person I am today. Happy Father's Day, Dad! xoxo

i heart the loft!

Not sure if you are aware, but Ann Taylor and I are good friends. Well, not really, but I really like her...clothes, that is. As a loyal shopper, I usually get all of their coupons but since I moved I am afraid all of my coupons still go to my old address and my renter doesn't feel the need to forward them on. To be honest, I wouldn't either. But I was very excited to get this coupon via email this week. I plan on hitting the Loft up for some more back-to-work clothes sometime this weekend (it's been kind of like back-to-school shopping but a little dressier). Hopefully you can get some use out of it, too!

Details, details

This is backtracking a bit (I have some catching up to do on posts since so much is in the works) but I wanted to recap one of my favorite details so far. I received a tiny box that was shipped to our house and arrived right on my birthday. R set it out with the rest of the presents so I opened it up and I was so excited! It was this antique ribbon I had bought to wrap the bouquets:

Now, it is gorgeous on its own, but what makes it even better is that the paisley design matches the papers we are going to use for our invitations...

this is the Serpentine Regalia patterned paper and Wicked paper from Envelopments

Rehearsal dinner

We are currently trying to finalize plans for the rehearsal dinner at a restaurant called Aqua. We loved the atmosphere when we first checked it out and the menu sounds great! We'll be in HHI next weekend so we are going to give it a try.

In the meantime, I have been looking at invitations to use and out of this have developed a whole new color scheme just for the rehearsal (not that I don't still love my green and brown, but I thought something new would be fun). I am totally obsessed with the color coral right now, and since it's a beachy restaurant (called Aqua) I want to use coral and aqua invites. Here is one I've found that I absolutely love:

I think we could do a lot with this theme and it fulfills my wish of having another color palette to play with without having to have a whole other wedding!

Choosing a tux

We went to the tux store on Sunday to check them out and decide what R and the boys are wearing. I guess I was expecting it to be a bit more like when girls try on bridesmaid dresses because I thought he would try different combos on so we could pick the best vest/tie colors. Not the case. They basically had a few mannequins wearing sample tuxes (in sizes too small) and a wall of vests in all sorts of colors to choose from. All we had to do was pick the tux and pick the color. Good thing I brought by binder with me with all the swatches in it! We tentatively picked this combo out but I am still not 100% sold...

Right now we are thinking black tux (2-button, notched-collar) with white vest and tie for the groom

The same black tux but with a brown vest and tie for the boys

And the same black tux with green vest and tie for the dads.

That way all of our colors are covered and no one is too matchy-matchy.

BTW-the colors from the website are off, so don't let this be your only judge of how it would look.

Joining the world of blogs

I know I'm a bit behind the curve, but over the last few months I have discovered and become loyal to several blogs so I figured it was time for me to start my own. I think it will be a great way to keep everyone up to speed on the status of wedding planning, not to mention the other excitement in my life. I hope you come back often!
